I recently came across this site and I am trying to make a basic game with the Lassie Director software.

I want to create my own backgrounds, characters, and items. Can someone point me towards a tutorial to explain what format I should be saving my pictures in, where I should save them so Lassie can access them, and anything else relevant so I can get started?

Thanks for any help! Smile

If you go to the download page there is documentation for Lassie director
http://lassie.gmacwill.com/lower.php?section=download&page=index

Its worth while downloading the talkie editable demo, to see how things work, its what i did when i first started

There is a tutorial, but its for Lassie AS, the general principles are the same, BUT there is interface differences and the way sprites and phases are handled are also different
http://www.nigecstudios.co.uk/tutorial/Lassie_AS_Tutorial.pdf
i only use JPG and Flash for anything with transparency

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with the game Smile

Hi NigeC, I'm following your tutorial with Adobe Flash CS4 and Lassie AS 0.81. I have several questions:

- Is that tutorial still up-to-date with the latest LassieAS?
- When I try to link Flash to the generated .as file (as seen on p. 19 of your tutorial), CS4 complains that the _data.swf is not a valid file.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Do I have to use CS3 or another (older) version of Flash?

Thanks.

I think the original _data.fla's where published as player 7 as2, I have used CS3 before with no problems, I don't have CS4 tho..
I'll try again in CS3 and see if I have any problem Smile

don't worry NigeC, it works in CS3. However, none of the .fla in LassieAS can be opened in Flash CS4

I hear the above link stopped working.

I have put the file on my server, at least for now.

I am trying to create a game on Lassie AS, as part of a college project, but I'm having trouble making my character on Flash. Is it possible for someone to send me a .fla version of the character included in the Lassie demo, so I can see what is going wrong?
Thanks!

currently the main Lassie site hasn't got the Patrick fla (well last time I looked it wasn't there) the character was originally built for Lassie Director so thats where you need to look when its re added.
the only fla I have is messed up, in CS3 and Shepherd format

If you download Shepherd Greg went into a lot of detail on creating the character, and its more or less the same or take the patrick movie clip out of shepherd's fla and add to to a Flash 8 fla?
