hmmmmmm. That's NOT a bad idea. I'm going to leave it on the back burner, but I do really like the concept. And who knows... back burner concepts have a history of being realized within the engine =)

yeah.... you could do a Sierra style KQ1-3/SQ1-3 style text command game

My wishes for early 2008 for the current Lassie AS :D
1/ stay open inventory or its background images options enabled, or a way to get the inventory ala CMI
2/ the sound problems online
3/ away to stop the right click properties popping up and addiing the flash cursor
optional? to have a bag full of money
:P

I think all 4 of those are on the same impossible (or close to it) list Nige.... ;-)

I know but I'm a born optimist!

In RE:
For right clicking... Flash has never implemented right click support. There's not much I can do with the lassie player to eliminate that right-click options menu (though I could shorten the list of options a bit). The menu its self is a Flash player thing.
Sound... we'll see what happens. I'm leaving that alone right now. One nice thing about sound is that it is a totally separate application layer than can be added in later. I can be building an engine base that doesn't have sound options without restricting myself from future developments.
Inventory... I'm not making any official announcements yet, but I'll tell you that the inventory will be TOTALLY different in the future of Lassie. I'll be implementing a BYOC model; or, Build Your Own Components. This is my gift to the developers community and my way of making it your own problem that the inventory doesn't work the way you want it to. So, I'm building a component API and probably making one or two give-away inventory components. From there, you can make the inventory work however you want it to so long as you have the skill to program it. So long as you follow the component API, you can make your own modules work with the engine. And then, I wash my hands of game developers who whine about the way the inventory works. :D

Oh, and the same will hold true for the conversation tree interface. I'll release notes on the conversation component API also that you can build your own dialogue selector. The one I release with the engine will most likely be dead simple.
In the meantime, I need to stop working 60 hours weeks before I can get back to working on Lassie. My new Lassie developments have halted since getting slammed with major Flash production from a few major clients.
