What is this?
Has any one heard of this.... From the genius Tim Schafer (Monkey Island, DOTT, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts) comes a new game, Brutal Legends. To me, it looks very much like Full Throttle 13 years later. I haven't heard too much about it, but I guess it's a viking/heavy Metal (I think Death Metal would be cooler) game. Well.... check out the YouTube video. Let me know if anyone knows more. Might push me over the line for that 360. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WYH2sFCGvE

Yeah iv been watching this one. Its more action based, rather than an adventure. But since its a Tim Schafer game im sure it'll be amazing even if that isn't your chosen genre. Some sites that have more info about it: www.brutallegend.com www.doublefine.com www.mixnmojo.com

L...O...L...!!!!!! That looks FRIGGIN' awesome :-) Rockin' cool flash website too with (for the most part) cool interactivity that doesn't suck. That's always been a rare trait on Flash websites. Now if only I played video games... I'd actually get excited about this title!

fatbuoy1- 10-21-2007

Yeah I love the site too. Try scrolling your mousewheel... sheer GENIUS! ...and I dont even like rock. Or Action games. But then I wasn't that fussed on platform games either until Psychonauts. Maybe genres don't matter as much as quality, depth and fun!

bigmac- 10-21-2007

LOL... I missed the scroll wheel trick. That is clever, and great multimedia "sparkle" that makes the site fun, entertaining and creative. My personal favorite is the execution of the message board though... the fact that it's done with a 3D field of raised lighters is appropriate, cool, and technically pimp :-D

fatbuoy1- 10-21-2007

Yes, but the reason I love the scroll wheel trick is because its something that maybe 90% of visitors won't even see... but its there. Which I guess is typical of a Schafer project.

I also didn't realize that Jack Black was the voice of the main character.... that means I HAVE to get a 360.... So my girlfriend can watch me play, the loves Jack Black and Tenacious D

fatbuoy1- 10-22-2007

im hoping itl come out for PC eventually... Btw im thinking of getting a console at the mo, n not sure whether to go for a wii or xbox 360... anybody any advice?

bigmac- 10-23-2007

Wow... now there's a loaded question. Should we create an entire new forum to field this inquiry? ;-) Like I say, I'm not a gamer; so indifference from this point of view.

SeanCyrusTowel- 10-23-2007

LOL.... no answer is simple.... if you like fun multi-player/party games, you want a Wii. If you like more realistic games, and nice online play (and this game) you'll probably want a 360... I leave out the PS3, because the only model that is price relevant, leaves out a very important function, backwards compatibility.

fatbuoy1- 10-23-2007

I actually went ahead and bought a Wii... but I have to say im not overly impressed. I did want more fun, multi-player style games, like to muck around on with my flatmates, so I got Mario Party 8. Maybe I just got the wrong game, but after playing it for a few hours i'm already sick of it! Like it IS fun... but there's just something about the general design of it that doesn't QUITE work... like its a little TOO designed for kids or something. I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me. If not, its coming up to the xmas shortages so I should be able to offload it onto ebay without any great loss and buy a 360! Alternatively, anybody any recommendations for wii games (good for mucking round on, but a bit better designed)?

Wii games... here's your best bet: #1 Super Smash bros Brawl This is THE pinnacle of game design. I know Halo is the grea-*test*-('") game of all time and all that nonsense, but really SSBB from a pure development point of view is a legend. The developer, Mashirio Sakurai (not sure about his first name) is one of the last developers that make games for the sheer purpose of making games. he has proven with his actions that he values a strong well produced game more then money. (canceled a few games that COULD have made lots of money due to the names attached, but were actually a flop in gameplay, and a few other things) Nintendo has given him free reigns for this, an almost unlimited budget and a new team/office put together just for this. The Music aspect (which i am very into) will be AMAZING. They have more composers then most games have musicians and the quality of the stuff is outstanding and very true to the individual characters. Sonic, Snake, And at least 1 other 3rd party characters also make a appearance here. The Online play looks amazing... if only Nintendo would get away from the no chatting policy. All in All, A Spectacular game thats souposed to have the best multiplayer in the world (plus a new story driven campaign) Realese date: Feburary 10th 2008 #2 Metroid Prime 3 The 3rd game in history to warrant a 10/10 from Nintendo Power, Although it lacks multiplayer, it clearly shows that the wii can run on more then just inovation. A very strong adventure/shooter hybrid with wii-mote based controls, all in all a brillaint game, If only there was multiplayer... #3 Battalion Wars This game is being kept in somewhat of "lock and key", so details are sketchy, but it amounts to a 3rd person shooter/strategy hybrid with full online support. Inspired by the "Advanced Wars" TBS game. Realese Date: 3 days Away #4 WarioWare: Smooth Moves This goes beyond minigames, the WarioWare franchise invented the term Microgame. These games literally last like 2 seconds and usually just involve a gesture like "jump" or something like that. Funnish multiplayer, But other then that its not worth much. #5 Zelda: Twilight Princess I haven't had the privalige of playing this game myself yet, but by all accounts its a game on par with the classic "Ocarina of Time". This game is just like every other 3D zelda game, but with a few new wii-based controls such as aiming a bow, or making a swinging gesture (more like shaking the wiimote actually) No multiplayer, but by all counts a great single player adventure. #6 Mario And Sonic at the Olympics Basically a Revamped and improved wii-sports. but with mario AND sonic characters. I dont expect much from this, but sega might pull something off. And ya, that about covers the Wii.

a few additions and comments. Sega is by no means a 3rd party to Nintendo anymore. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, and Smash brothers has finally proven that. Sega only makes games for Nintendo, and most of them have been ports of their classics. Super Paper Mario: The la-*test*-('") in the paper mario series, but also the first to be more about side scrolling rather than RPG. You still level and all that, but there aren't any battles based on the old school RPG stop and fight method (aside from a random boss). It also puts a whole new spin on the classic sidescrolling, throwing in a 3rd dimension you can enter, and see around objects. The controls are mostly holding the Wiimote sideways like a classic controller, and some pointing at the screen for certain actions. Makes good use of the control scheme possible. Zelda was amazing, and I believe 80% of people with a Wii bought Zelda. Smash Brothers is worth pre-ordering, the last one was the highest selling game on the GC. You can also check out the site (updated daily) at www.smashbros.com

Ahh good to see i'm not the only Nintendo nut. My only compliant about Super Paper Mario was it's length, after you beat it once there's really no replay value. the difficulty was a little underwhelming, especially being fresh from playing the original Super Mario Bros on the VC. On a positive note, i found the boss's strangely fun to play... the last few played out in a very fast paced exciting manor, although the 100 samurai whatever they were's got tedious. A good game to rent, but I frankly see no reason to buy it. (we've strayed a bit off topic I think)
