Wacom drawing tablet and Flash Guys... i`m thinking in buying a Wacom drawing tablet (graphire3 6x8), as i`ve read it`s quite good. I`m tired of fighting with the mouse to make my drawings so i will buy the tablet..
the thing is... Did any of you had tried the wacom drawing tablet? it goes well with flash? The forums and reviwes say yes... but you know.
thank`s

Whoa, yeah. I used one of their new ones at a 3D graphix conference recently... the trick thing is that a moniter screen is the tablet – so you can place the moniter in your lap and draw right on it. And it's pressure sensative. Neat! Big money though.

I've tried using a Wacom but just couldn't get the hang of it. I still scan my drawings and trace with a mouse. I suppose I should try my hand at a Wacom again, but they are indeed expensive. The coolest thing I've seen about them is that you can get varying line weights in programs like Illustrator with a Wacom, which you just can't do at all with a mouse.

i did it So, i bought the wacom. It`s not sooo expensive (well... it is to me, because in Argentina thing`s like that costs us 2 times more... 1 dollar equals 3 pesos.. so, for me the wacom cost 300 US, but for you guys.. come on... 100 US). But, i had learned that you need good tools if you want to make a good work.
I will have it this week, we`ll see.

1 dollar = 3 pesos? Is the peso is valued differently depending on where/what country it is being used in? I was in Mexico a year ago and the exchange was about 1 dollar to 10 pesos... interesting. It sounds like common curriencies do not hold global value.

I haven't found any good Wacom tablets for under $200, and still those are small. A decent sized one is still between $300 and $400 US.

Greg, the peso from argentina is diferent from the one in mexico.
John, in www.wacom.com you can see the Graphire4 6x8 (a decent size) for 200US
http://www.wacom.com/graphire/6x8.cfm
But i bought mine in e-bay, a graphire3 6x8 at 105 US. (but ì just check it, and it seems like that item is no longer appearing... the guy that posted it was "bobiseverywere".

Sorry, I don't consider 6x8 a decent size. Not for drawing, anyway. The smallest surface I can draw on is 9x12. Ideally, 11x14.
My mouse pad is even bigger than 6x8, but drawing with a mouse is different. When using a mouse, my hand is horizontal, and moving the mouse the motion is in my elbow (left-right) and shoulder (forward-backward). But when holding a pencil or stylus, my hand is vertical, all the pressure goes into my fingers and at such a small size the drawing motion is concentrated entirely in my wrist, causing a lot of wear on my hand. I need a bigger surface so the drawing motion is spread out in my wrist, elbow and shoulder, saving me from carpal tunnel syndrome.
Though I still admire people who can use Wacoms.

I know wath you mean, it`s easyer to draw on a bigger area, and of course with paper and pencils. But, it`s a lot of work... draw, scan..., i`m just now trying the wacom and it had give me more than i was wxpecting. The response is accurate if you set the surface of the tablet with the one you are working on the screen. The pressure effect works nice, the pen is comfortable, and.. wath to say?.. For what i will use it, it`s amazing.

we use a Medion MD41217 12" x 9" which are about £60 in the uk (104.95us)
i'd rather draw on paper then scan it, i'm pretty hopeless at drawing with a mouse, hence why i use 3D software rather than a paint program

Hi, im thinking of getting myself a graphics tablet and was wondering if anyone has advice? Im a graphic design student so would probably be using it with illustrator or flash mostly. Can anybody recommend one?
Do I need to go for the expensive Wacoms or are other brands like Trust, etc. just as good?

If you don't mind dropping some cash, go for one of the pressure-sensitive Wacom LCD screens... good grief are they ever nice. You can use it as your normal monitor, or when you want to draw, you take it off its stand and place it in your lap and draw directly on it. Pretty sweet, and the last I heard they were becoming competitive in price with some of the nicer LCD displays on the market. Still expensive, but reasonable for what your getting.

Yeah that would be nice, iv seen those advertised. I reckon give it a few years and those will have taken the place of mouse-based control... bound to!
But I got myself a nice LG LCD a year ago and its doin great, so kinda on a budget (£100-200)

Oh geeze, you can still get something very nice for that kind of money! That's what, $200-400? I know my last office got a couple decent Wacoms for $150 each.
