verb disc actions not clearly clickable
hi, I'm new to LASSIE AS and I already read the manual. I get along quite well now... My problem is, that the clickable actions (talk, look, use) are not clearly clickable. Meaning that not the whole coin is clickable (does the hover effect showing the name of the action), but instead some of the free parts of the disc. Does anyone have an idea for a solution? I already messed around with the flash file of the verb disc, making it bigger and increasing the distance between the coins, but that didn't change anything. :( thx and greets, Darth.

Okay Darth, I think I follow you... It sounds like you're concerned with the size of the hit area in which you have to release over each action icon in order to trigger the action. Most importantly here, understand that the hit areas of the action icon movieclips are limited to the positive image area of each movie. For example, lets say you update one of the icons to an "X" shape. The hit area of that icon will be reduced to the actual shape of the "X", which would be pretty annoying since you could potentially release within the icon's bounds and still miss the positive image area of the "X" (and your mouse release ignored). There is a very easy solution to this. Draw a second shape, say maybe a circle, behind the "X" shape and give it a color fill with 0% alpha (transparency). This second shape will be invisible due to its alpha, but it will still respond as positive image area. After that, the icon's hit area would respond to both the "X" shape and the circle shape. Make the circle as large as you want your hit area to be. And on a related point: I work in a multimedia design shop that specializes in design accessability. One of our cardinal rules is LARGE hit areas. In most every circumstance I find its best to offer a huge amount of grace area, particularily when there are no visual seperations defining the button's clickable bounds. When it doubt, offer more hit area!!!

It sounds like you're concerned with the size of the hit area in which you have to release over each action icon in order to trigger the action. exactly! :) ok, I'll play around a little more, thanks. :) I have another question for the meanwhile though: How does LASSIE decide to scale (or scale not) my character? I changed the size of it in the flash file and in the room configuration, but that didn't change anythin... any ideas?

He (George Stobbart) is bigger within the game! :) I guess you have to reload the library member flash file in LASSIE, after you changed it?

I guess you have to reload the library member flash file in LASSIE, after you changed it? Yep. Library members are saved within the project file and remain unchanged until they are reloaded from their source.

ok thanks! :) Making the disc and the icons bigger solved the problem, btw: http://bsls.forseth.de (2nd alpha)

http://bsls.forseth.de (2nd alpha) Hey, cool!!! Check this out, Darth has repurposed some Broken Sword graphics to make a really cool little LassieAS demo. Nice job!

Nice job! Thanks, it's for the course "Web-Engineering IV" in my university. We have to do a flash project and as I always wanted to create an adventure game myself and I slipped across LASSIE AS, I thought I'd make a Broken Sword Lost Scenes Demo  I somehow came up with the idea while revisiting www.brokensword25.com. I love BS and can't wait until that fanadventure will be published! :) Until then the fans can have a look on my demo to distract them from waiting! ;) I will post a link to the end product here anyway! :!: For the game is due on Monday, it wont be long until that moment... ;) Until then I'll disturb you with questions that come up while "developing"... :P
