Upcoming Release Thread or Poll? Is there a thread or poll for the future of Lassie? I read the wishlist thread. For example what features you are working on for the upcoming release of Lassie?
Thank You

I believe Greg is working on Shepard. Which is supposed to work within flash (as a sort of add-on I believe). I know there is a thread about it.

I read the posts about Shepard. This would be a great add on feature. Seems the link to the demo is dead though so I can't see how it looks or works. Any reason the link is dead on the thread? Thank you Seancyrustowel for the response and information.

the demo only let you add a background and a sprite, but it looked good!
Greg may of changed it, but the version we saw was a Tab system, rather than having to quit the room editor or walk editor its all handled by a tab properties menu
Lassies AS's core was Director which i think(could be wrong) was making things hard work, and Director is a system hog under windows

No, the director version had a core of Director. Greg re-wrote the program using ActionScript (ie. Flash) which became LassieAS. At least that's how I understand it.... having never really used Lassie myself :-)

i meant the actual workings of the Lassie AS application are director, it creates AS for the game data, the project is stored as a CST file

The future of Lassie as it stands right now:
Shepherd/LassieAS 2.0. Shepherd will replace the current editor application. The interface is WAY nicer, easier to use, etc. And it will be entirely flash, which will alleviate some of the busywork required by the user currently (like constantly republishing that "data.fla" movie). Now, as long as I'm excerpting the effort to build a brand-spankin' new super editor, I'm not skimping on some of the crappier Lassie functional points. I'm throwing them away and making improvements. That said, Shepherd data won't plug directly into the current LassieAS player... I'll need to make some updates to the player to adapt the new features (named phases, multiple walk/light/speed matrixes, etc...). So, that will ultimately yield the second official build of LassieAS.
As for timeline... this is just my hobby, and I won't lie, I've been moving slowly. To be entirely honest, having left the greater realm of "single-guy-dom" has done no favors to my quantity of free time (though that's not a bad thing!!). Company softball games, vacations, volunteer web projects, etc, have not been helping either. So, I suspect you'll see the next big resurgence of progress this winter. I'll be much less active and will have cold evenings indoors to write lots of fun action script. Either way, the project is NOT dead.

That sounds like an amazing upgrade. Yeah Winter helps projects rolling again. Especially UpState NY.. :D. Its great to hear that the project is not dead. Can't wait to see what its like..

P.S. bigmac have you ever thought of implementing a particle engine (rain, smoke, snow, flames)? Then again it can all be done in Flash anyway!! Just wondering..

Never even considered it... not that the thought never occurred to me that it would be cool, but there's way more to the core Lassie program that one guy can realistically maintain. Adding on shiny objects is something that I leave to you developers, and yes... flash makes it easy.
