U23D (one down!)
I apologize if I've been snippy recently... work exploded with two massive Flash projects that queued up back-to-back. The smaller of the two for the band U2 and National Geographic gave a one-week production timeline for all the Flash work, and while it's a small site, it was a LOT to crank out in a week. Check it out :D http://www.u23dmovie.com For flash dorks like me, here's the interesting stuff: Flash 8+ BitmapData classes ROCK!!! The rounded main-stage screen was done with a DisplacementMap filter so that the source animations could be in flat 2D. The rounding effect is rendered on-the-fly to the flat animation. Same thing with the two perspective screens... Both are flat / rectangular movies that are getting rendered into 3D perspective on the fly. I got some help from my boss on that one, but it's basically rendering polygons to achieve the effect. In a nutshell: Flash is getting to be an unbelievably powerful graphics platform.

impressive Greg, but a worthy band for all the stress it caused!

Really like it. Did you create the clip as well?

bigmac- 12-11-2007

Clip? What, the movie trailer video? No, that was done by a Hollywood production studio. But if "clip" refers to a Flash clip, then yes, I would have done it. I did all the Flash animation.

Yeh i meant the movie clip. The longer I look at that curved screen the more impressed I get! is there a grid-like layer over the screen to give the impression of LEDs? I really like how you've taken the single picture and brought it alive with little things like the fog, the flashing lights, the spotlights... Very nice :D

Yep, that screen is a composite of 3 layers... on the bottom is the distorted display of the base animation. Over that is a black mesh graphic to give the impression of an LED screen. Then over that is a duplicate of the distorted animation that is dropped in alpha and blurred to create the glow effect.
