Trigger-happy Americans I was just going through the drawers of the desk that I inherited a few weeks ago and came across a flier for a gun range. Looking over its headlines reminded me of just WHY we Americans have been type-cast with some stereotypes. Here's the flyer's cover text (verbatim):
DFW Gun Range & Training Center
JUST SHOW UP AND SHOOT!!
- Luxury indoor gun range
- Shoot in comfort year-round
- Use your guns or rent ours!
TRY RENTING A FULL-AUTO SUB MACHINE GUN!!!
While it's not terribly offensive or inappropriate, I have a hard time with just how casually the subject of blasting away with a sub-machine gun is used. And not to further any stereotypes, but the range is located in Texas.
Sorry to bring up politics if I've offended anyone.

Well, that explains it.... aren't all American Stereotypes derived from Texans in the first place?
We do have a pretty bad knife problem in the UK tho don't we?
Oh and of course theres NO problems with guns in Northern Ireland... ;)

Ach grand, to be honest besides the Omagh Bomb i dont remember any big acts of terrorism in MY time, jus d usual gang warfare that any country has... thats what its down to these days, theres no real religious basis to the fighting, its just gang warfare, so very few people get a kneecapping that werent involved with the wrong people anyway. But even that has quietened down recently... I think everybody wants to see this devolution work, cus even tho Ian Paisleys a bit of a hypocrite cus hes doing what he criticised others for trying to do, and Martin McGuinness is a murdering terrorist... well id rather have them running the country than the current twits in London!

My sister's EX had to do a runner from Northern Ireland
.. along with his whole family.. Him and his brothers where members of the UDR in the late 70's, i never got the full story but i gather they did something that brought the family to the attention of the wrong people
i don't think he's ever gone back, i remember the first time i met him, i couldn't understand a word he sed he talked so bloody fast lol
He doesn't look much but if you ever needed a bouncer he's your man, one day some little scrots throw a brick at his bike as he road past, he stopped confronted them calmly, then floor the 3 of them and only hit each once, he's was well into marshal arts, full contact stuff and incredibly fast on his feet

Although...
Knives, guns? In the grand scheme of things, what do these matter compared to the dreaded Scottish weapon: the kilt. Apparently the drunken Scottish tourists in Poland are getting to be such a problem with flashing their bits that Poland is moving to ban wearing kilts in public
The story is here: http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=437362007
I particularly like this excerpt:
In the city of Wroclaw, in the south-west of Poland, officials are exploring a kilt ban after being horrified by groups of drunk Scottish men who lifted their kilts to strangers to reveal their buttocks.
Local police admit they have been unable to control the groups of maurauding Scots, despite complaints from outraged locals and fed-up bar owners, who claim Scots are rowdy, break glasses and leave pub toilets in a shocking state.
Polish police admit a blanket ban on kilt-wearing would be impossible to enforce.
