The Lassie Editor Application
Alright, open forum here for discussion and ideas on the Lassie Editor Application. Provide your thoughts on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the current Lassie Editor. Wishlists are okay, but please support them with rationale that addresses the need and goal behind the wish. Let's have it...

The big thing has got to be the TIMes and variables working.. I really don't wanna do another complicated statue puzzle with phases n sprites! mouse copy and paste not needing to use tab key so changes take hold (really annoying if you add a lump of text dialog and forget to use tab) sound/dialog more options for cursors and arrows, ie place holders for extra look, use, talk, cursors (at the moment doing a Myst game.. the bug bare is using item cursors which get overridden if theres an arrow cursor) or options between verb disc and alternative ways hotspots and regions.. walk on hotspots On enter room commands you can turn off for the next visit Cubic room support (yeah right lol) but i know 3 people that would love to see it and have games in the making that need a engine that works the ability to hide forgrounds and walkbehinds.. so you can't accidently move them.. and lose the big ugly white/transparent bit in the walk editor Particals, rain etc For once i wont grumble about AS's walk editor.. it walked fine once you told me how to use it! but anyway to refine it? The issues with characters behaving oddly online, ie facing the wrong way, ignoring commands etc I'm sure theres more

Thanks Nige... that's actually a combination of editor AND game player points. For this discussion, lets stick to the editor stuff. So let's clear the air on this one once and for all: What IS a "cubic room" by your definition?

NigeC- 03-12-2008

http://cubicvr.popforge.de/#download cubic room has 6 images front, back, left, right up, down "stitched" to make 360 projection.. A good example of a game using cubics is Scratches.. the Director based CSI games used it but i'm not sure.. those may of used cylinderical There's engines such as SCream and Pipmak.. but animation on nodes is very limited Theres also Sandy 3D which has a AS3 cubic template Adventure maker just added a cubic plugin even AGS has a pano plugin it was more a passing comment, i know its not likely to be a possible feature  It would probably be more another engine than a part of future Lassies

Is there a reason I can't find a demo of this thing anywhere? I downloaded the source and it still had a dysfunctional demo going with it, and there is no demo posted on the site. I'd be curious to see it in action. Actually, have you found a version that you could compile yet? Looking at some of the code, this looks more like a Flex app then a Flash app. It looks like it's spawned through AS. Either way, no. I have no plans to implement anything like this in Lassie, which will remain a strictly 2D engine. However, as far as 2D engines go, I am trying to take Lassie to the next level.

Yeah you need to give the flash player permission to use the folder.. but the demo is at the top of that page as a text link.. at first all you will see is a grey screen as the images load.. with dots as a loader the best probably is the Sandy 3D as its AS3.. the AS2 one sucked really Did you say Lassie games work on the PSP or was it some other hand held?

How about a "save as" feature for projects, in addition to (and perhaps with ability to toggle) the menu-to-menu saves? Sometimes I'm experimenting with a sequence and want to be able to save my progress with a new file name so I can implement it, without having to save, exit, make a dupe of the project file, then go back to where I was to make the changes. Also, undo features, maybe? Ability to enter x,y points for sprites and walk box locations and point (instead of having to drag them and try to get pixel perfect accuracy.) That'd be nice, too. Maybe even add the ability to enter numbers into boxes in addition to parts that use sliders, since sliding to the right number when choosing colors can also be tricky.

YES "save as" would be great When i was doing NOTH i could of done with a second conversation with slightly different responses if an action had been done else where

Okay, point taken: Save As. Folks want it.
