Very impressive. I've not spotted anything yet which hasn't already been mentioned. I don't have time to finish it yet, so will get back to you when I've played a little more. Visually alone this is a great game. Love the style. It has a Myst feel to it which I like too.

This is so impressive! Just had to register to tell you that! (I've been sneaking around the forums for long time though)
I think the few small issues have been pointed out so let’s focus on the good stuff:
It looks wonderful, has a very nice eerie feeling to it. I instantly got sucked into the story eager to find out what the big mystery was. I absolutely don’t agree that it feels like Myst, I personally don’t like Myst at all. Imho Myst killed the true adventure games. Something Amiss feels much more like old LucasArts classics… but more serious… maybe something like The Dig. Very original.
The difficulty is perfectly balanced. Hard enough to get me thinking but not hard enough to make me frustrated. The only thing that I couldn’t figure out myself was “... the inscriptions on the log. .” <-
I just can’t wait for the next chapter to come out.

Gracias Thanks for the feedback everyone. No matter how much you polish a game there's always rough edges and I appreciate the help finding these kinks.
Not that I mind the kudos either. It's always nice to know people are enjoying playing the game.

@adventureman: If you allow a personal question (I'm crurious, I know ;)): You are an author aren't you? How did you end up making a game out of your book? Or what is your actual job? Just curious...
greets Darth.

What is your actual job? Just curious...
Oh, start a new Chatter forum thread for this one, Tucker, and go into detail. I can honestly say that Tucker his one of the most interesting professions that I've heard tell of in a long time. He does some cool stuff.
adventureman- 03-20-2007
Documentaries Hehe...I don't think my job is worth a new thread...
I write and direct non-fiction documentaries for cable TV. It's fun but not as glamorous as it sounds. Lots of hectic travel, tight deadlines and budgets, and long hours. But I enjoy learning about each new topic we cover.
There in Germany you may have seen a show I worked on called "Akte der Morde", which is the German version of a Court TV series called "Body of Evidence" about Florida's first female criminal profiler. Think Silence of the Lambs meets CSI: Miami. Lots of interesting forensic procedurals and behavorial science.
Recently, I've been doing a lot of History Channel shows. One about captured journalists during the Vietnam War called "Nine Men Down". Then one on the terrorist attack on the USS Cole called "The Cole Conspiracy". The last show I did was about stolen inventions (took a swing at Edison!) so its a nice variety. You Brits would be interested to know that I recently shot some stuff in Leeds using a French inventor's prototype film camera!
With non-fiction the trend has been to go with docudrama, otherwise known as reenactments. Sometimes I feel like I'm making a mini-movie rather a documentary. For instance, on the "Cole Conspiracy" we shot all the scenes with the terrorists in small towns in Morrocco using dozens of extras, Yemen costumes, and props. It's not Hollywood by any means but as close as we can get to it.
But its still non-fiction so I appreciate these other outlets to let my imagination run wild. I'm really enjoying storytelling in the game medium via the LASSIE engine. I think its the audience interaction which appeals to me the most. Not as passive as watching TV.
Something Amiss has always been more of a hobby project for me. I don't make much from the royalties on the book as its nerd-quota scares off most readers. But I think the video game crowd is more accepting of mind-bending scenarios. We'll see anyway as further chapters are released...

WOW interesting job Tucker, it must be very interesting and one hell of a buzz to see a program come together
i live about 90 miles from Leeds, but funnily enough its a place i've seen very little of
adventureman- 03-21-2007
Leeds Leeds is a nice town. My favorite part was this huge ruined monastery just outside the city limits. I actually used a few photos of this place in chapter two of the game (the temple corridor and compass room).
BTW, the rest of the temple photos are from Greg's trip to Machu Picchu!

Chapter Two is Live Hi folks,
Chapter Two is officially live. Thanks to everyone for helping me beta -*test*-('") it. The game runs a lot smoother now due to you all. Muchos Gracias!
NigeC- 03-28-2007
its really good m8, well done :d
i noticed one thing and not a biggie.. so you don't need to hate me!
in the area with our ape friend, after you put him to sleep... if you you "use" the hot spot for the glowing area it tells you you can't enter coz of the big monkey..
its not a big problem but some git will find it :P
adventureman- 03-28-2007
Glowing Light Aha...i missed that. Thanks for letting me know. I'm sure its not the only thing to slip past me.
Tucker

Bugs Yikes, boy was I right about that one. If you ever want to ferret out all the bugs in your game open it up wide to the internet. People got the weirdest stuff to happen and now I've got a gazillion things to fix.
(I just went live yesterday and have already gotten 17,000 visitors. Man, does word spread fast in the blogosphere.)
Matt Kempke- 03-30-2007
Great Job! :) Really nice atmosphere!
... it's really strange how many people play the games but you wouldn't even realize it if it weren't for counters and web traffic analyzis. Or do you get much feedback from outside real life and the Lassie club? IF only everyone of the visitors would pay you 50 cents ;) ...
Maybe it's just a question of time until you get news coverage like John gets for NearlyDeparted. I hope so...
BTW I haven't seen "Akte der Morde" yet ... could the german title be "Akte Mord"? That was the only thing I found on the web.
bigmac- 03-30-2007
Re: Bugs (I just went live yesterday and have already gotten 17,000 visitors. Man, does word spread fast in the blogosphere.)
Although, to calm people's nerves... this is of course the initial spike. Ultimately we need to bank on the fact that traffic will die down an give our bandwidth some rest once the buzz dissipates a bit. Just curious Tucker, did you have any bandwidth problems with that kind of traffic?
adventureman- 03-30-2007
Bandwidth No, this spike only lasted 2 weeks or so with Chapter 1, then it died down to on average 300-500 visitors a day. I expect the same thing with this chapter...
I've got 3 terabytes bandwidth per month now so I should be fine. There's an avid point n click gaming community out there and they all pounce on a new game simultaneously. Once you ride out the storm you're fine....
Although you have to have thick skin...b/c out of that many people some can be quite harsh about your game on all the blog comments and puzzle forums out there. Thank God I'm not charging anyone.
Akte Mord was the German title of the Court TV show. It translates to Murder Files or something. Probably doesn't air in Germany anymore as it was quite a few years ago...
I don't really like doing interviews so I'm happy not to have much press. It's just nice to have people playing the game!
