Re: Notes on Shepherd Looks great Greg!
Though I'm stuck at the same point as everyone else. Can't load the media. But I'm enjoying the interace so far. One thing I would suggest is to avoid having to scroll through the list of editors. If you can fit them all on one longer drop down menu that would save time when flipping back and forth.
ROOM EDITOR NOTES...
Thanks Tucker, great feedback. I'll reply to it soon. Right now, I'm running out of steam for the evening. Night' all.

Re: Still Set the Graphics Sorry, Greg.
I still can't set the graphics. Typed it out, pressed the orange arrow, nothing.
OHH! Stupid, stupid, stupid me! Geeze, no wonder this isn't working for anyone. I have a temporary script in place to derive the path to the library folder... it's using the path of the application SWF up to the first instance of the word "shepherd". Without going into a long explanation of what that means, do this:
Rename the "shepherd_demo_r1" folder (that holds all the application files) to something like "shp_demo_r1". Doesn't matter what the folder is called so long as it does NOT have the word "shepherd" in it.
This is a stupid error and wouldn't even be an issue in the long run. I'm just using some VERY quick and dirty logic to deduce the library path for the time being.

Ah, that did it.

cool... it worked for me too

Good News: I finally figured out how color transforms work within Flash this evening, as in, I ACTUALLY understand it rather than just muttling through hit-or-miss (as has been the case for all previous Lassie development involving color tinting. IE: light matrix). So, Shepherd is going to have some sweet (and sensible) color tinting controls that work *exactly* like the "tint" controls within Flash.
See, all it takes is for the developer to understand what it is he's building in order to get a good product!

have you had chance to get anywhere with Shepherd yet Greg? just out of interest has AS ran its course?
bigmac- 04-15-2007
That's a fair enough question... I haven't said anything about it for quite a while now, so I suppose an update is in order. Well, I got a bit stalled out on the Shepherd data interchange model. It was a real bugger of a problem that I only partially conquered before taking a break from it. So, no progress has been made recently.
That said, I've been pursuing some other project work in my free time. While it is Lassie related, it has not involved engine/editor development or enhancement. Don't take that to mean that Lassie AS is dead or finished... I'm just not actively pursuing it right now. The only thing that is dead and finished (as I have indicated before) is Lassie Director. I will not be making further enhancements to that engine as Director is cold, dead, and decomposing in a shallow grave with an Adobe logo carved on its headstone.

I'd just like to add that LASSIE Director is still a great engine and quite versatile. The only complaints I ever got from people about it was there was no full screen option.
NigeC- 04-16-2007
I thought about going back to the Director one and just have downloadable games, mainly over my bandwidth issues and the lack of control i guess once the game is on the net. but in hindsight the bandwidth problems is a lot to do with my character size and how i animated it.
But its going to be a long time before my own project see's the light of day, so hopefully Shepherd will be in development by time any actual programming starts

I make no promises... especially on Shepherd. There are just SOOO many interfaces that need to be built in order to recreate the editor in full, and it's not going to be useful it it's partially released with only room-editing capabilities.

i've got to learn how to animate properly in flash Greg.. it could take YEARS!
