Night of the Hermit online test I've got the room layout almost done in NOTH, its walk around, dialog in place and some animation, but not the characters that will be used as they are still getting animated.
Since altering the menu the game sometimes hangs online, its possibly a browser cache problem, i just don't want to bugger about with it more if its going to make matters worse!
theres 4 rooms lobby, bar1 and 2 and you can use the window in the first bar
also open to any comments on how to improve things
I use Firefox, it works in IE6, i haven't tried ie7

Did you update the demo - or did I just forget seeing herman running around ...
Looks great! I didn't expect that an original MI Character (with pixels and all) would work that well in that size (and resizing when walking) ... but it does! Really inspiring.

Hi Matt
the original Hermit was used because the new one isn't animated
But actually its looking like the whole NOTH project will be getting scrapped for something more original
Since upgrading my machine i can't use any of the shaders used for the rooms so everything would have to be re done
The barman is the first draft drawing CJ did of him (thanks for directing him my way Matt  )
I might release the source for NOTH for people to tinker with, but we just feel if we're going to take the time to do something as big as NOTH it needs to be all our own work, and not a copy of an imitation

just FYI Nige... "The chicken gave me a run for ny money" might want to fix that :-)
Matt Kempke- 01-15-2008
Hey Nige,
that's a wise decision! Judging from that demo you two have potential working together. And you deserve to do your own project finally Nige! :)
Do it! :o

me and CJ had a good look at the pros and cons and we both felt it was the best way to go, hes got some great ideas and i have few of my own too, expect something new and different
NOTH was a great learning thing so the work hasn't gone to waste, far from it, but we need to go forward and up
Maybe by time we can start building something Lassie will on the new version
bigmac- 01-15-2008
...me too. I'm really frustrated that I haven't released anything for Lassie in about a year now. But that's not to say that I haven't been working on it. I started tinkering back in October post-Europe with Matt, and now I've been full on pushing it since making the AS3 jump at Christmas. So, that said I feel like I've acquired about a year's worth of knowledge in about three weeks while writing AS3 non-stop (though I'm still figuring out new stuff on a daily basis... clearly I'm still not fully up to speed). However, the room engine is getting to be pretty solid in the AS3 build, but that's just a scratch in the scope on the engine, especially when considering that we'll still need a new editor. It's pretty overwhelming to think about actually. So, if anyone knows any AS3 or wants to learn it or can help in ANY way, that would be awesome! Even if a design student somewhere would like to build editor interfaces, that would be awesome.
anyway... looking good, Nige. I like the doors opening on rollover.

When you say build do you mean code or design? Don't know if i'd be much use at either but I'd certainly be up for it!:D
bigmac- 01-16-2008
both. Design would be great... though I won't be programming them for a while.
fatbuoy1- 01-16-2008
Well you know how little I know about coding, but i am up for learning, and i'll happily tinker away at interface design and graphics. :D Just tell me what it is you're looking for.
