Movies and TV shows
i watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) last night (altho i think it was a tv cut version) .. in the 80's this film was deemed a video nasties in the UK along with clockwork orange, Exorcist (for a while anyway), hills have eyes, even the evil dead films.. the list was endless, so they where taken off the shelves, until the mid 90's.. it actually didn't do much good because the video pirates cashed in and made a fortune! as far as some of the acting goes its appalling but in its way it was a ground breaking film as far as horror films go of its era and like the first evil dead it shows you don't need a mega budget and fancy effects to make good horror.. we bought Texas Chainsaw Massacre ..the next generation on DVD and thought it was cr*p, the story altho being more or less the same script just didn't work my fav horror film of all time is poltergeist, as a horror film goes its quite wimpy, but i now hate static on TV's and creepy clowns! fims i believe changed movie making Fist full of dollars... i hate westerns but most of clint eastwoods are pretty good dirty harry.. timeless starwars.. most would say 2001 space Odyssey was, but i never liked it jaws.. cool book, good film Exorcist... has more myths and legends than any other film ever made, caused panic on its release, people fainted or left the cinema, also claims of crew members dying Psycho.. everyone has heard of it, even if they've never seen it! bullit.. fantastic car chase, still hard to beat Alien.. sci fi horror, has everything! mad max.. best film with bikes ever made, well the aussie film Stone is better from a bikers point of view but its only on sale in aussieland now! Silence of the lambs.. cool film, even better books highlander... had some amazing camera effects, cool music, but a french man as a scot (chris lambert) and a scot as a spaniard (sean connery) and a american Kurgan (Clancy Brown) weird casting!

I personally miss all the old Cary Grant movies that my grandmother forced upon me. It doesn't get much better than 'Walk Don't Run' =)

Matt Kempke- 02-18-2006

.... Cary Grant is cool. But James Stewart may be one of the best human beings ever displayed on the Big Screen. I'd vote for him for world president. Have you seen "Mr Smith goes to Washington" ? :)

Why don't we talk about new movies instead of old ones? or TV programs? I am a big fan of LOST and its taking them forever to bring the 2th season to Israel...... (so I downlload it... hea hea) And Im waiting for episode 14.... Anybody here sees LOST?

Matt Kempke- 02-19-2006

Yes, I do! I love it ... the second season isn't here in germany yet - i'm usually watching it with a friend when it's on tv so i havent downloaded it yet. but some friends downloaded it - now they are threatening me with telling me the secrets of the later episodes. that's really unfair and scary :) John Locke is a great character! PS: please dont tell me any secrets!!!!!! :)

Talking about TV-series, everyone should check out Carnivale, Rome, and Prison break also. :D

JohnGreenArt- 02-19-2006

Yes, ROME was an amazing series, I hope they continue it (though it might not be for another year.)

lord_noodle- 02-19-2006

ROME started this month in Israel... I don't see it but I heard its a great program... anyone sees 4400?

bigmac- 02-20-2006

Never seen ROME. As for Lost? That show started out GREAT! It was interesting and mysterious. Yeah, John Locke was (I emphasise WAS) a great character. However, they have absolutely killed the show this season (s2). Ran it straight into the ground. Crashed and burned. In my opinion, another casuality to bury alongside Alias. Why? They have not progressed the Island story arc AT ALL since the second episode of the season. The flash backs are getting rediculous, and they no longer tie-in to what is happening on the island. That was the whole (successful) premise of the first season: an on-going A-plot line of the season sets up the plot for each eposide. The A-plot was progressed and supported with a B-plot of an individual character's past. Not the case anymore. They are using the character's pasts as an A-plot line for each individual episode, then coming up with rediculous B-plots to fill in time (how about Sawyer getting a haircut, or hunting a tree frog that is keeping him awake? Oie, painful!) And when the stories don't tie together to progress the show as a whole, it get's really BORING. How about 24? anyone watch that? This season is absurd as ever, but good grief is it ever entertaining =)

JohnGreenArt- 02-20-2006

Yeah, I'm addicted to Lost, but I'm getting very frustrated with it.

Peter- 02-20-2006

Yeah, i agree with you Greg regarding Lost, its going downward. But i think the recent episodes have been ok, but some are just plain boring. Have you heard that the creators of the series says that they have script material to create as much as 7 seasons. They mention something like that on the bonus materails on the dvds. Well, hope thats not the case, it would be redicolous. Speaking of series ending before they go bad. Havent anyone seen Carnivale that i mentioned erlier. Alltough very different, it is really good, and only 2seasons. check it out! =) And 24, yes i saw the first 2 seasons and liked it alot. But then i havent seen any more for som reason, and its season 5 now, right? A have alot catching up there. One of those days... maybe. =)

lord_noodle- 02-21-2006

I dont agree with you Greg. I liked the second season of lost but episodes 2-8/9 are very boring. but the 10/11/12/13 were great! I'm downloading 14 now...

Matt Kempke- 02-22-2006

Oh Sh.... I expected i just to happen like Alias. I'll wait for the 2nd season - and then for the series to get bad until i don't like it anymore. Sigh. BTW - I saw the first 2 episodes of carnivale so far - now that's an interesting series ... very creepy and mysterious.

Peter- 02-22-2006

Carnivale, yes mysterious indeed. =) but unforunetly there wont be a season 3. The creators have said that they thougt they had told the story as good as they could and continuing would only make it bad. Kind of wierd but perhaps for the best. Sad though, i would have loved to see at least one season more.

bigmac- 03-02-2006

Hey, Lost was pretty good last night! (Claire-centric episode) It was nice that we got to focus on the Island story arc for the entire episode, even during flashbacks. If they keep this up for the rest of the season, I may be willing to forget the mid-season slump and consider tuning in for s3.
