is it possible..
i'm trying a theory and i have a little problem: i have a scrolling room and i need to keep the content of the lower part of the screen in view ie the top part of the screen scrolls but the lower half stays constantly in view i'm doing a GUI in the MI 1 style also do you have an up to date 640x480 player swf?

NigeC- 05-28-2007

show by example lol i can get the GUI to work, but i'm not sure how to call Lassie events from a button currently a sprite handles the "look at" etc so everytime you click "look at" he walks to the point for the look att sprite

Nige, is it your perpetual goal to screw with my engine? =P No, the system was not designed to work this way. It might be possible if you know some AS and hack at it. Need I say more? That interaction model would be tricky to implement within Lassie. All objects are responded to through direction mouse interaction (IE: verb disc), so having buttons would disconnect the interactions from the object. There would need to be some flag inserted into the program to track which object was in focus so that the interaction commands could work with them.

Matt Kempke- 05-28-2007

... actually I'd pay money to play MI with a verb disc.

NigeC- 05-28-2007

.... i'm in between projects, so i just wanted to try stuff, and try to get some practice with AS and just see what i can do.. the idea was more a template rather than start hacking the engine, bare with me it think i've sussed it  @Matt problem is LA would kick off if we tried

NigeC- 05-28-2007

it maybe crude but it does work http://www.nigecstudios.uk.to/mi/mi.swf you can do stuff with the fire and the blokey it was quite simple really: i created "look" and "take" inventory items created "look" and "take" buttons on button release it sets the item cursor as the inventory cursor for the given action dunno how to use it in a scrolling room tho lol, thats beyond me tbh

Good lord Nige... that's brilliant! Truly, I'm floored. You had me stumped as I was tinkering with your demo there. I thought you'd busted out some serious AS kung-fu. Amazing... I need you guys to write me the book of 101 ways the engine was never meant to be used. As for the scrolling room thing... I'd simply make it a matter of dock-replacement. As in, load a new movie in to replace the game dock. It would be unclassified, so it would purge all default dock behaviors.

NigeC- 05-29-2007

ooh ok i'll have a bit of a play with the dock i was trying the ScummVM, loaded in MI, i just wondered if Lassie could do it.. i doubt there would be a market for it but already i've learnt a few new tricks that will be useful later on glad you like it thanks for the news page thing on the main site 8)

NigeC- 05-29-2007

wouldn't i need the player FLA to replace the dock?

Wow.... I gotta say that image above with the lassie guy on melee island kinda freaks me out

Genius
That's very clever, Nige. How did you get that ambiant menu sprite to load inventory items into the cursor?

Re: Genius

Cool
You truly are the MacGyver of LASSIE authoring, Nige. I'm amazed how you can think up this stuff!

Right... that said by MacGyver's twin brother and second cousin to the notorious John Green, master of Lassie hacks. I'M the one who is floored by you guys, considering I don't think anyone has yet built a game "by the book" as I would have written it.

I think its called...... "to much time on ones hands!" no actually, i'm playing games for inspiration.. at the moment its MI and Full Throttle... oh and Sam & Max hit the road.. so i'm looking at ideas and seeing if i can make them work i've never played Full Throttle and i'm well inspired lol, i'd love to do a post apocalipstic biker game (all time fav movie Mad Max + biker lol) just the riding about parts puts me off one thing you can tell the game wasn't made by a biker pmsl.. all i can say is i'm glad a little tiny screw doesn't hold my front wheel in  my skills with AS are very limited so i'm setting little projects that might come in useful
