If you give... an infinite number of monkeys and infinite number of typewriters, they'll eventually type out all the great works of Shakespeare among the rest of the gibberish.
Heaven help us, someone's actually trying it... sort of.

among the rest of the gibberish
To quote Bob Newhart -
"To be or not to be? That is the... gzarnamplkasdt"

OH MY GOSH!!!! SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS THAT BOB NEWHART SKIT?!?!?!?!
Fatbuoy, you're okay in my book. I love Bob Newhart, and that is probably my most favorite and memorable line of his ever. I used to listen to a casette tape with that act on it at my grandmother's. I also liked the one about Mrs. Wheatherby's Airline and Storm Door company, and the one about school bus driver training. Ah, those were the days of good, funny humor.
Also, unless you're trying to remain anonymous... do you have a name? You've been around here for a while now, and still I only know you as "that guy from Northern Ireland".

Haha that bus driving one was GENIUS!
Yeah, sorry I should introduce myself!:D Im Chris, 19, in my first year of Graphic Design at university.
By the way, I do feel kinda guilty for bein around a while, commenting on everybody ELSES work, without having anything to show myself. But I DO have quite a few ideas running around my head, so one of these days I hope to get round to taking the plunge and actually learning how to use LASSIE. I made a REALLY short adventure game for my GCSE Art exam (GCSE's are the exams we take in the UK when we are 15/16)using 'the Games Factory' engine, a really cheap drag-and-drop programming tool that couldnt handle games of any real size. The graphics were all drawn in flash so I might remake it as a way of learning LASSIE, probably sometime in the summer.
So anyways, thats me :)

By the way, I left that http://theinfinitechimpproject.onium.net running all night and so far it has gone through 295,139 words, and the only slightly coherent content it has come up with is
'chat of a cow... em, ill use sip'.
Does this ring a bell with any Shakespeare fans?

Fatbuoy, you're okay in my book.
What about meeeeee :(
also, is this for real??
Infinite chimps?

Typing Monkeys Strange that you should mention the typing monkeys. I just finished this physics book called "Programming the Universe" where a scientist argues that the universe is actually a giant quantum computer with all its atoms being bits of information.
Anyways his analogy was replacing the typewriters with laptops. He said it was much more statistically feasible that the monkeys would randomly type out commands of a programming language, (b/c short strings of code can create complex systems) This would explain the structure and chaos inherit in the universe. Something like that...I couldn't fully wrap my brain around it.

Geeze! My boss got heavy philosophy after a mere 1100 words (question marks added):
Be I twig?
Be he me?
bigmac- 04-11-2007
Oh, and nice to meet you Chris! No worries if your actively using Lassie or not. If you can form a coherent thought and write it in a complete sentence, then we're happy to have you. Yes, you too, Todd.

Be I twig?
Be he me?
Hmmm... If I be twig, and he be me, then be he twig?
Deep.

... I got a lot of philosophy, too.
Mostly concerning "huts" ... those monkeys like short words, uh? :) I know - the propability to have a "real" short word is bigger than a long word... I wonder how long it takes to get to xylophone ...

The site should have a competition where you win money if you get it to spell 'antidisestablishmentarianism' :)
