Hitchhiker's Guide demo game As you know i'm a sad man with very little life to speak of, who just loves to feck up Greg's hard work!
I have a spare hour or so and for some reason, dunno why really, Seancyrustowel and a Hitchhikers game in mind, i think the idea is actually abandoned... but i had a "Wonder if?" moment
http://nigecstudios.co.uk/games/guide/guide.html
It works a lot better offline, the goal was to keep the guide main image on screen so the guide page images loaded behind, , it uses flash buttons to change pages, i moved menu items about, i thought about using sequences to keep it text based but i'm not clever enuff to create a remote inventory or text fields

Nige, this was too good to be buried in "off the subject"... plus it's very much ON subject with our community. So, I moved the thread and renamed it something a little less vague.
Very nicely done! I'm very impressed by the creative approach you took to adapting the engine to a different game experience.

I thought I'd cracked up for a minute.. i was sure i posted something in the other forum lol
Thanks Greg
I did some tiny changes, you can now take the tooth brush and it goes to inventory
The typewriter text was done with Swish Max, it need speeding up a bit
I'll add a few more things to do, if someone wanted to use it i could do "Nige's guide to the guide" lol

nice work, always good to see something new done in lassie.
NigeC- 12-01-2007
Thanks.. i added a few items to pick up, fixed typo's lol and put a border around it..
one thing i didn't compensate for was the verb disc near the foreground edge, I could do look, take and speak buttons though!
Edit:
i expanded it a bit more, it now has buttons for look, take and talk, .. i need to fix the cursors! i wasn't sure if it would work so i just gashed them together lol
Edit 6095
i added another little feature if you look at the tooth brush

Cool Nige, I'll have to check this out tonight when I get home (no flash at work)
SeanCyrusTowel- 12-03-2007
Nige that demo is awesome..... You've changed the lassie interface so much, it's barely noticeable!
Great Job.... #1 Hitchhiker Fan approved! (go ahead, someone challenge me on that title ;-))

This makes me want to remake SHADOWGATE, an NES classic, that all of my friends hate - but i love it for it's atmosphere and music ...
Nice Work Nige! Really Impressive!
NigeC- 12-04-2007
I just had a look at Shadowgate and it seems big on mobile phones! I tried the nes rom and i couldn't get anywhere
I thought about doing a night vision view and doing a horror game or something along those lines.. i dunno! so much to do already lol
thx guys
bigmac- 12-04-2007
Oh!! Shadowgate! I loved that game! Go figure, most everyone I know hated it too, Matt. I guess there's a reason that it only appeals to folks like us.
SeanCyrusTowel- 12-04-2007
never heard of it.... but I'm sure I have it... *shifty eyes* I'll check it out some time

i had another bit play and came up with this:
http://www.nigecstudios.co.uk/games/darkvision/
you can't do much. i should of called the middle button "action"
but this one is a lot more developer friendly, it has a main layout template.swf that has the radar thingy and the return button, you then just add the room background image
the use, look. take are part of the menu.swf
i want to try and use the scrolling rooms TIMes from the other forums but can i hell make it work lol
you put the code in the first frame of _data_fla then autoscroll () in the enterroom TIMes editor is that right?
ps i didn't make the radar thing
The demo files are here:
http://www.nigecstudios.co.uk/games/darkvision/demo_files.zip
most of the _system FLA's are altered so don't overwrite your originals! rename your current library or something before looking at it with the lassie editor
it contains the CST file and all the assets

Good lord, Nige. I don't know how you do these things. Are you using inventory items as the interaction cursors? For the record, it is truly a compliment to see how you guys find ways to adapt the engine. I'm continually impressed!
NigeC- 12-05-2007
Yes I'm using the inventory for interaction cursors..
I plan to do something with it, but maybe a step further, i'm just trying to get it to work!
NigeC- 12-07-2007
A little bit more play with ideas
360 degree room:
http://nigecstudios.co.uk/games/360/
i haven't quite figured out the 360 image software so the room looks a bit screwy! but you can use the door or the window
