help with a shooter script
ok i'm absolutely hopeless with Flash i'm doing another little game for more practice and it has a little shooter section ive adapted a simple shooter FLA to get the targeting bit and it shoots the target.. how do: make it remove bullets from the clip if the target is missed end the game if all 5 are used end the game once the target is hit also from a cut scene how do you return to the room automatically from flash? heres the fla.. www.rottengames.co.uk/uploads/shoot.fla the rest of the game is about sussed thx

well i've kinda done it with lassie by: using the flash movie for the sight cursor, maked a 5 phase world sprite, each shot taken turns off a bullet and onto the the next world phase.. it doesn't work to bad.. sept for a big arrow cursor in the sights and if you miss the target, then hit it, it takes another shot to loose it.. could be because its a target sprite is on top of a world sprite? edit:: sorted the arrow (so simple!) just the hitting the target now!

ummm... not following you there, paranoia. I'm not sure what you are trying to do or what your Lassie-based solution you describe is. As for this shooter... I'll give you a hand, just tell me how exactly it should work (I didn't see any targets to hit, just the crosshair cursor) it should only take a couple minutes to script that (and the script in place there is kind of crappy)

Here, This is about a five minute development job, but it should give you the functions you need to track/count shots, and there is a conditional in place for when the activity is completed (successfully or not). I stripped out all the old code, so you'll have to paste the few sound commands back in. hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions. http://www.gmacwill.com/lassie/flashgames/shoot.zip

No prob! And, okay... it was actually closer to ten minutes =) But hey, I even got to do it on the clock! It was a great demonstration to show one of our new flash employees on simple object oriented programming, so thank you!

a great demonstration to show one of our new flash employees on simple object oriented programming cool! i helped and didn't even know it!! :D i've never been any good with Flash.. i used to cheat and use Swish which i always found easier.. until now, swish is useless for game creating.. the only swf work i've done is simple stuff for websites (logos, small animations) after i've done this game i'll do a tutorial for a simple game, i've about sussed the basics, all in all i've only had two script arrors with this game, on the TGE it was every interaction almost!

Paranoia, let us know if you are still working on the game tutorial, that would be extremely helpful! thanks, PrestonD

hi yes i'm still doing it, but i've max'ed out the bandwidth on my site so its going to be down until the 1st of march :( i'll work on it offline then upload it when the site is back  the tutorial is in the form of a wiki, mainly so people can correct my mistakes or fill in the gaps theres a thread here about it forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=278" target="_blank">http://lassie.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=278

Hey, what version of PHP does the Wiki require? If it's 4.x, I could host it and save you some bandwidth. However, I know I'd tried installing one once and it didn't pan out... required PHP 5 which my host seems not to have adopted yet. Arg.

NigeC- 02-28-2007

i used an earlier version 1.9.2, i couldn't run the new one either.. if you want to host it you welcome to, my sites on shaky ground with my bandwidth problems it would be shame if the tutorial was down because of it
