Frustrated with character sprite issues..
I'm stuck at the moment... My character is drawn in Macromedia Flash 8, and utilizes enhanced stroke.. Unfortunately, enhanced stroke isn't supported in Flash 6. As a result, my sprites show up in game, but fail to show up in Lassie AS. Is there anyway I can use bitmaps for every frame in place of graphics? When I tried this last night, the sprites in game displayed inside a white box, as a result of the frames consisting of images transferred from Photoshop. How can I get Lassie to recognize the white outside of the character as transparent? Also, I can't figure out why he won't start out at the designated startpoint. Instead, he keeps starting out in a white box at the bottom of the screen that I have designated as an information bar. No matter how I layout the boxes or points in the room, he starts out down there and gets stuck.

For characters i use PNG with an alpha channel I've had the problem with vector graphics not sure in lassie.. have you tried converting them to a symbol? when you configure the character in "cast" where did you place the pink circle/cross?.. Obviously if you can't see the character its probably high up where his head would be.. normally it should be at his feet The start point should be inside a walk area if its not he wont move or just walk in place I hope that helps :)

is this as simple as having the engine published for FP9? Then your strokes would work? Also, I'm not sure why you wouldn't see any stroke... Previous versions of Flash should still honor the stroke attribute, they just wouldn't have all the trippy scaling and end cap features that were added in 8.

I've had similar problems with Flash done in Flash 8 not showing in the editor.. i made a flash alarm keypad and it will not show in Lassie AS.. i have to use an image the same size to get the alignment,, then change the sprite to the keypad movie.. its really odd as its done the same way as the rooms that turn that display perfectly :s Flash text sometimes doesn't display in the editor either but will in a game

Right. I was thinking of using a similar sized sort of faux-character file to edit the scaling and stuff in Lassie AS as well, but I'd rather avoid having to do so. I may be wrong, but wouldn't vectors scale better than PNG files?

Yes Vector does scale better.... i do 3D characters, programs like Swift 3D can do them vector but the file sizes are huge and run badly unfortunately.. so i'm stuck with png My next Lassie AS game has a 10 by 10 pixel character lol, its a 1st person game.. its just there so the dialog system works

I can't figure out how to get the alpha layers to work... In Photoshop, I have the image with a transparent background. I save it as a PNG file with alpha layers checked... But when I import it into Flash, the transparent backgrounds are still read as white.

I use Paintshop Pro.. it has a optimizing tool that does it for you.. I normally have the Alpha channel black exporting from the 3D software.. other stuff i draw in PSP with a transparent background, draw on layers then just optimize after they are added to a flash movie they seem to work edit Thats really weird.. i just tried with PS and i get transparent png every time, even messing about with settings Theres alway some little stumbling block when media has to pass through various software, I do mostly 3D so theres often up to 5 things to do before it reaches Lassie.. theres a lot of scope for cockups believe me lol Friday night i rendered 16 images.. 4 full detail renders with various effects which took over an hour each, the other 12 where just previews but still took about 5 minutes each.. only to find I hadn't disable "link sun to sky" so the shadows turned with the camera!

I must be doing something wrong. It's all right though for now.. I just cropped out the white in Flash, and with a scrolling background, it doesn't look bad at all. As for the invisible sprites in Lassie AS, I just used a "false" character file to lay out the measurements, just like your method. Thanks.
