First person mode?
Hello persons. I want to try making something in flash for once, and this engine looks pretty decent, but there's one thing I'd like to know first: does it need to have a main protagonist sprite? I'd like to have my game, if I make it, as a kind of first-person thing... still an adventure game with a usable inventory and multiple rooms etc, but without any onscreen puppet to guide around. Is this in any way feasible?

Yup.... Nige is the best person to help with this, he has made a few games in first person mode, handyman wanted and hawk manor. I believe how he did it was adressed in the handyman wanted thread. forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=413" target="_blank">http://lassie.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=413

Handyman Wanted was quite simple to do The best way is to create a 10x10 character sprite.. make it a colored square so you can see it! then make it invisible in the rooms properties set start points in the centre of the room and the blue points for sprites.. or where ever you want text to appear Hawk Manor is probably the closest you could get to a Nancy Drew type, it turns in a very similar way, it uses timeline animation and hidden buttons to turn The only real issue is as yet i can't totally get rid of using the verb disc.. you need it otherwise inventory items wont work sometimes If you want a simplified template of a hawk manor room and an explaination on how it works i can do that :)

In execution, you should just need to go into the Rooms Panel of the layout editor and turn off the character sprite. But of course, Nige C in the expert on doing this. He's done some serious first-person tinkering so has some real kung-fu here.

If you want a simplified template of a hawk manor room and an explaination on how it works i can do that :) I don't think I'm quite up to that stage yet since so far I've done, uh, nothing, but if I actually get something happening then I'll definitely hit you up for that later if that's still cool. Thanks. :)

No problem :) There is also some Lassie tutorials http://www.nigecstudios.co.uk/tutorial/Lassie_AS_Tutorial.pdf or http://www.nigecstudios.co.uk/tutorial/tutorial.rar, this file has all the assets, pdf for the tutorial and Lassie AS but just use the room and character content in the library and use the Lassie version you downloaded originally in the "adding background" section , the second page there is a radio button "show char" unselect that.. you will get a warning screen just click ok :)
