now we're all gonna steal the idea.... j/k I know what I'm going to do.... it's a matter (as I've said before) of doing it.

Feedback on the weird direction: good concept... neat take. However, I do want to make sure the default component set is something pretty ambiguous and "plain-vanilla". The goal of the component set is to make something that could potentially go into a game set in the future or medieval times; into graphics that are hand drawn or 3D; and into a story that is either comedy or drama. I do appreciate your off-the-deep-end approach, but I need to steer the con-*test*-('") requirements a bit to fit the goals of the engine.

Also... don't everyone get stuck in the rut of the verb selector needing to be a "disc" with an encompassing shape. I actually really liked Chris' direction that he posted yesterday given that it has no restrictive bounds, and we could get some seriously cool bubble action going with those circles.

Awe man.... there goes my idea.... I mean I didn't expect it to win.... but at least for creativity.... Since I won't have a chance to actually do it the way the semester is ALREADY going. I was going to take a quote from Greg: PS: Go nuts. Lets make this thing cool. Better yet, lets make it flat-out rock! I was going to use this quote to then make a UI that was either: 1) based on terrestrial rocks... like you'd find on the ground.... This didn't prove very easy to conceptualize, so I decided on 2) a UI based completely on rock and roll. I would use a guitar as the arrows, and drum sticks as the pointers.... and things like a microphone as a talk to. While it was a pretty neat idea, I knew it would only be helpful for a game that, well, was like Brutal Legend.

Slick and elegant are the goals. That does not restrict entries from still being creative.

Heres a random thought... would it add anything to gameplay to incorporate the Verb disc and the inventory, i.e. when you click on something, up comes use, look, talk... as well as all your items... for a game with no more than say 10 items it could streamline the whole process a bit?

bigmac- 01-30-2008

Sure, that could be cool for a game with only a couple items... but I'm leaning on the side of assuming that developers will be abusive with the number of items that they incorporate, as it par for the course in classic adventure games. :) So, I guess I'd still prefer to keep them isolated for the core component set. People can build their own conglomerates if they choose and have the know-how.

So, this is a mid-month reminder: submissions? If we don't get any formal entires, then ya'll are getting whatever I decided to build as a control set. Hmmm... maybe I'll make it pink.... :P

PinkFrangipani- 02-14-2008

Pink? Augh! You'd never dare! I was planning on taking some time for it next week...hope I'm not the only one!

SeanCyrusTowel- 02-15-2008

As it has become the official color I have to wear at work... I have become partial to purple ;-)

One week mark. Submissions due by March 1. Text concepts are fine for discussion. If no one provides interface input, you get whatever I come up with... no questions asked. This is particularly true concerning the inventory. Everyone seemed to hate the dock model, but I have yet to hear what would be preferred.

JohnGreenArt- 02-23-2008

I thought the dock was fine. I'd design stuff if I wasn't so busy! I feel bad not contributing.

NigeC- 02-23-2008

Everyone seemed to hate the dock model, but I have yet to hear what would be preferred. hate is hardly the right word! re location or the dock staying open woulld of been nice I always liked CMI type inventory, but i realise thats rather hard without right click support is there a size preference for the verb disc, arrows, cursor etc? or just close to the current?
