Comic Sans So, I'm kind of torn. My company just launched a new website today (illustrated by our same designer who did the Peace Corps Kids Game). THe art is, of course, fantastic. However, there is one point that I'm on the fence about... the site uses Comic Sans. Check out the site:

So, I'm torn. On one hand, this is a very appropriate use on Comic Sans. The site clearly has a cartoon / comic book motif going on and Comic Sans is the only comic font that you can rely on for setting as system text (given that 99.9% of all computers in the world have it installed). So in that respect, I'd say it was the appropriate, logical choice. However, it doesn't change the fact that WE USED COMIC SANS!!! BLAAARGHHH!! Grossness.
So, what do you all think? It's a horribly trite font. LEC designers should be shot for having printed it on the box of Monkey Island 4 (though it fits the quality of that game). While I don't ever want to justifying using it, this website is a decent exception given that it would either require rendering all text as images in a custom cartoon font, or else using something formal.
So, what do ya'll think?

The website looks awesome!
And I don't mind the use of Comic Sans at all I'm afraid, sorry...
:D

I almost said BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH never never never! But then I remembered that I only got a REAL hatred for comic sans after being TAUGHT to hate it... lets face it, it DOES have a distinct personality... the problem is that most of the time that personality is ignored and its used in a REALLY bad way, but if its used in the right place, you shouldn't even notice what font it is (unless ur a designer and u look for those things)... it should just fit. And I think, in this case, it does. Still, for the sake of holding ur head high it might have been nice to find an alternative :D

If I've learned one thing in my time in school to become an Elementary (what do you Europeans call it.... Grade school?... or is it Primary?) Teacher, is some times Comic Sans is appropriate. I hate using it.... and I see it ALL the time in the elementary school..... but you know what..... when you're talking about kids..... they don't know the difference..... infact most of them like it for their own pieces of publication. I've basically come to terms with that, and just ignore comic sans. Besides, I don't think it looks as hideous below 12 pt.
Though looking through the site... could you rip off anymore comic book characters ;-)

Ok... who voted "yes, can't get enough of that awesome font!"? Come on, own up... you need to learn that theres some things you just DONT say in relation to Comic Sans... even in jest!
C.J.- 06-25-2008
I'm afraid that was me... :D
Although I was it bit hasty: I sort of overlooked the "under all circumstances" bit
And "can't get enough of" may be a bit too strong, but I felt the "maybe" option was a little too restricting.
But I'm honestly not bothered when Comic Sans is used, it must be my lack in taste

We'll spare C.J. some face and blame the mysterious pro-sans post on the buggy-man.

It's really nice that you would do that for me, but don't worry: I'm not THAT easily embarrassed :D
If I were I wouldn't even be able to go out in public...

I actually like the font to.. at one time it was my font of choice for MSN messenger and also chat lol  .. but as mentioned it works better below 12pt
Saying that i wouldn't use it on a website or write a letter with it!
if i remember right, 2D Assassin used it for the cartoon strip scenes.. could be wrong its awhile since i did/played it.. i may of used it in Dizzy and the pit too.. and not realized lol
Edit:
Yes guilty for both games
So in Dizzy i actually changed the _system files to Comic Sans.. oh the shame lol

I remember we had a Vice Principle at school who loved it. There was some guys who threw eggs at a teachers house and were caught on CCTV, and apparently it cost a bomb to get cleaned off (dunno how tho) so these guys had to pay the bill... which was printed out by the VP in comic sans... kinda jus didnt fit. :D

I realized something this week... I wasn't looking at Comic Sans, but some how it came into my head. There actually is a reason why teachers use comics sans. It is one of the only system fonts (it is considered a system font these days right?) that has a standard "a". All of the other fonts (just look at that "a" in your browser) make that funny a you only see in text. Comic Sans, makes an "a" with a tail. While I think this is silly, because students should be able to read most basic fonts, some people find students can read it easier.
I remember last year, I had a pen pal in first grade. When I wrote to her, our teacher told us, if we were going to type it we had to use a font "like Comic Sans" that does the a's that way. (Thanks Kelly for reminding me why I knew this... not that you read this form and are going to say anything)
Oh My Golly Gosh It's ToddW I don't have anything against Comic Sans, I think it's one of the best default font.
The only thing wrong with the site is that it goes, just over, one page - so when viewing images you have to annoyingly scroll up and down a small section of page... grr... (or maybe it's just my screen settings..)
