Cant run lassie games in browser
Whenever I try and open a web-based lassie game - like Paranoia's website, or 'When we were kids' - internet explorer wont load the swf for me. I just get a white square in its place. Anyone know why, or how I can fix it (besides changing to firefox). Im on the la-*test*-('") internet explorer and flash player.

have you got a Flash movie killer in your taskbar.. i think yahoo and google have a think that stops flash movies loading

Not that i know of. I can run other flash content in inernet explorer, it seems to just be lassie content that doesnt appear.

Oh gosh... IE. Download Firefox and see if you still have the problem. Until another browser renders the same error, IE is the culprit. That browser has more problems than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking con-*test*-('"). A Microsoft promo-photo once said it all... it was a picture of the IE7 development team with everyone holding up seven fingers for the version number. Everyone accept a girl in the front row who'd miscounted and held up eight.

Haha! Seriously?! U got a link to that photo? I downloaded firefox once before, and ended up removing it because i found it to be much slower than IE... kinda put me off using it again.

Try this: Tools>internet options> delete cookies, delete files, clear history press apply and ok. Try now. :o

Trying it now...

Nope it didnt work. Thanks anyway (sorry bout all the repeat posts). Its giving me a 'page loaded, but with errors'. For instance, when i click the 'When we were kids' link from the forum, the errors listed are: Line: 2 Char: 1 Error: Invalid Character Code: 0 Url: http://www.dierdrakaia.com/kids/intro.swf and Line: 1 Char: 1 Error: Object expected Code: 0 Url: http://www.dierdrakaia.com/kids/intro.swf And its the same with Nigel's site. Not sure if the above makes sense to anyone who knows code?

does http://paranoiagames.uk.to/3da/3da.swf load? my interactive site and squinky's game don't use the new game option and go instanty into the game, 3DA however goes to the options screen first

bigmac- 02-09-2007

Line: 2 Char: 1 Error: Invalid Character Code: 0 Url: http://www.dierdrakaia.com/kids/intro.swf Where is this error showing up? Is it rendered into the HTML of the page or appearing within the Flash movie window? Better yet... is the Flash movie window even appearing? Right-click your mouse around the error. Does a Flash 8 context menu pop-up when you do?

fatbuoy1- 02-11-2007

It pops up in an error report window. The page for paranoias site is just completely blank, and the 'kids' site has the coloured background with a white box in the middle where i presume the flash is supposed to be. When i right click the usual windows commands come up, not the flash ones, so it musnt even be loading the swf.

bigmac- 02-18-2007

Yeah, that means that the Flash movie isn't even loading. It's hard to believe that you don't have Flash player... but then download a fresh install of it and try it to see. Even if you have an outdated version of Flash, you'd still see the movie window, it just wouldn't have all working features or you'd get a message to download the newest player version.

fatbuoy1- 02-19-2007

But I must have, because im doing work in flash and can export and watch .swf's... strange. Ill try reinstalling it.

bigmac- 02-19-2007

Ah, but there is a difference between the Flash player and the Flash plug-in. Flash player is a stand-alone application that runs SWFs. When you export from Flash, your SWF preview is being run by Flash player. In contrast, the Flash plug-in is a browser-dependent application that that extends the capabilities of a web browser to play a Flash movie. So, you can have Flash player installed without actually having the Flash browser plug-in (they are totally separate, and Flash player IS automatically installed with Flash; the plug-in is not).

That sounds like sense, but I cant find anywhere to download the plugin. I uninstalled and reinstalled flash player, and changed a few settings in internet explrer, and now when i open the pages im given a popup asking me whether to download or open the swf. Either way, because its just the swf and no source files all i get is the first screen. Sorry to keep asking about this but its really bugging me! I even downloaded firefox out of frustration but it does the exact same thing as IE strangely enough.
