just a thought... could be be an issue with Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, it wasn't part of IE6 installation, i'm not sure about IE7.. without it you can get things not displaying correctly it probably has nothing to do with your flash problems, but its worth a try

fatbuoy1- 02-20-2007

Fraid not... tried installing that Java thing but it hasnt made any difference

fatbuoy1- 02-20-2007

Btw Nigel, tried getting onto ur website there and it wouldnt let me on, says your bandwidth's exceeded, just in case you didnt know.

NigeC- 02-20-2007

yeah i just noticed.. some network company has been hitting the site constantly for the last 5 days, i had various ip's from this company visiting the site showing between 5 and 9 guests on the index page, i had intended to block them but now i'm stuffed till the 1st of March :?

the problem is 3DA got very popular over the last 2 days and instantly ate 8 gb of bandwidth :? i've tracked the source to three games forums these sites also have Something Amiss so watch out Tucker, they have my game credited with yours using the same game engine i'll edit the post with the site names shortly

Bandwidth
Thanks for the warning...I've indeed experienced a spike in traffic. I think there are a number of point 'n click blogs out there and once one gets a whiff of a new game it spreads like wildfire. I just switched to a hosting company called Lunarpages. They got good reviews for customer support and the business account allows for 3 Terabytes of traffic for around $20 bucks a month. Beats my old host which capped it at 50 Gigs a month! If you're shopping for a new host beware the companies that offer "unlimited bandwidth". If you read their terms of service you'll find that there are a lot of catches and most aren't really unlimited.

Re: Bandwidth
Thanks for the warning...I've indeed experienced a spike in traffic. I'll have to check what the Lassie site traffic has been like recently. Either way, people don't seem to pay much attention to the demo games. I've never experienced bandwidth issues.

Firefox Issue
Hi guys, I'm having some browser compatibility problems myself. Seems that "Something Amiss" won't run in Firefox. Funny thing is that it works fine when I run it on my computer. But when I upload it to the server it freezes after the "loading game data" page. Safari and IE don't have this problem. I -*test*-('")ed "When We Were Kids" and it worked fine with Firefox. And other people have been emailing me with the same problem so I know its not just my computer but a problem with the Something Amiss game. Any theories? Tucker

if you look on adobe site theres a problem with activeX and a solution for IE7 not sure about firefox i got our laptop working by going to plugins and enabling the plugin again then it just started working :? i'll try something amiss tomorrow i've also seen threads about the html code needs updating for the embeded swf but mine started working before i had chance to try it

adventureman- 03-07-2007

Thanks Nige, I noticed that 3DA worked with Firefox so by process of elimination its gotta be something to do with my game. I published a lot of the swf's in Flash 8 so perhaps that's it. What version of flash did you use? Tucker

NigeC- 03-08-2007

3DA, all the assests where flash 2004 apart from the data.swf whch was Flash 8, originally it wasn't embeded into a html file just the last player Greg released the new version is all Flash 8 so i'll upload it today and i'll send a link m8 EDIT you can find it here.. the site link protected so it may not play the swf directly http://paranoiagames.uk.to/2da/2da.swf or embeded http://paranoiagames.uk.to/2da/2DA.html theres still loads to do so but if you interact with the dead body you do get speech lol try adding www. into the links if they don't work

Thanks
Gracias Nige, I figured out the problem. It was the hotlink protection that I had enabled on the server...interferred with Firefox loading of the game data for some reason. I turned it off and it worked fine. Tucker
