Bloody windows!
has anyone else had problems with Lassie AS closing down as you save coming out of the TIMes editor.. its done it twice today losing everything i've done in the room before hand, even the room that was created before going into the room editor goes its done it before more randomly, and to be honest it wasn't a problem.. but like everything as you get better you can do more sprites all at once, and not need to -*test*-('") after each little bit, but when things crash its a bit of a pain lol the problem is theres nothing i can do to replicate the problem

I haven't had any consistent complaints about this, so I'd venture to say that it's not a Lassie-specific error. More likely, it's a Director player memory issue. May be particularly bad on your machine if you've got an older system.

you could be right, my system has been twitchy as hell and running out of memory, but thats normally with 3D software, the only thing that was running at the time was Flash 8 and Lassie our network pc is actually quicker but up until recently it only had a 16meg video card, plus it would never detect this pc's harddrive's boot sector, so it was never an easy change over i think its time to do a bit of juggling pc's, reformatting and a fresh start

I have no fact to back this, but I certainly wouldn't write off the possibilities of major memory leaks within the Director player application. It's a pretty light weight app that is running scripts composed by --lets face it-- an amateur. While I'm sure Macromedia tried their darnedest to make it water-tight, I've never been impressed enough by player performance to take it very seriously. The Flash player application is MUCH more stable and robust in my experience.

i bit the bullet and formatted.. and swapped pc's, vid cards and upto to now everything is a lot faster.. basiclly all this pc will do is games development, instead of a play thing for the rest of the family funny how you always forget to backup something innit.. i've lost poser and its serial lol would it be possible for a download of the current Lassie AS package with all the right files?

bigmac- 04-17-2007

LOL... I dunno what all the right files are! =P Truth be told, probably not this week. I'm pretty booked and and heading out of town this weekend. I think you just need the AS package from the Lassie website then the single newest update available on the forums. Combine the two and you should be as modern as the engine.

NigeC- 04-17-2007

i think thats what i have LOL.. i stll managed to get the wrong bloody player tho

NigeC- 04-19-2007

it looks like like it was down to virtual memory problems and a hard drive full of rubbish  , with a bit of swapping, changing and a donor Datamax tower i now have a 75% faster pc :D the difference is unbelievable

NigeC- 05-02-2007

i still have the same problem Greg the PC is now 3 times faster more ram, loads of hard drive space, reformatted and only runs the programs needed to make the games... it'll run 3D software such as Poser with no virtual memory errors, i haven't anything crash it only does it if you re enter the TIMes editor to edit something.. hit save and return and it crashes.. its getting so i have to save before i use TIMes its not coming up with any error, just shuts down.. sorry to be a pain but i have 16x christ knows how many Phases to do! i'll be suicidal if it crashes after the 99'th entry EDIT as i was saying.. it crashed so i had a dig about! problem solved: if you don't have Shockwave player or Director two files are missing dirapi.dll and iml32.dll for some reason Lassie or the shockwave environment maybe? was looking for dirapi.dll after a re edit, with it not being there Lassie crashes installing the las-*test*-('") shockwave player solves the missing file problem under XP.. seem ok ..fingers crossed nige the computer geek

bigmac- 05-03-2007

if you don't have Shockwave player or Director two files are missing dirapi.dll and iml32.dll WTF are those?!?

NigeC- 05-03-2007

its something that installs automaticlly with director or shockwave standalone player.. for some reason it was what Lassie looked for as you hit the save and return button i check through XP's software event viewer and got lassie_as.exe failed to open *. dll at blah blah blah did a search and couldn't finf the two files googled the DLL's and its something installed with director and shockwave on windows systems installed shockwave and problem solved lol

bigmac- 05-03-2007

Hmmm. Good to know. You're a troubleshooting genius, Nige!

NigeC- 05-06-2007

oh FFS.. its still doing it.. its just wiped out 10 phases and i'm in the middle of trying to build a maze with 52 friggin zones plus directions.. i can edit from 5 to 10 times before it crashes it only does it on a re edit, or if you've duplicated a phase and go in to edit some values.. i'm giving the phase a new name each time really pulling my hair out, its murder trying to keep track of that many phases.. i might look for a flash template and save a lot of hassle

NigeC- 05-06-2007

the error i get: Faulting application lassieas editor.exe, version 10.1.0.11, faulting module dirapi.dll, version 10.1.0.11, fault address 0x00032469. its a Director player module but the version in the shockwave folder is different to the one lassie is looking for.. 10.2.0.21 the only option i guess is get director 2004 which should have the right version.. i wont need to buy it i'll just let the trial run out this is a nightmare! i guess if i get director, the module might run in the Lassie folder UPDATE Having Director installed doesn't work either.. now trying the dirapi.dll in the Lassie folder with the editor

NigeC- 05-07-2007

in the Lassie folder seems to work.. i've done over 40 different phases with LONG TIMes and no problem :D i'll give it a few days but if you want the DLL i'll zip it for you
