ANNOUNCE: HP Lovecraft Commonplace Book Exhibition
this has been doing the rounds on a lot of game engine and developer sites: It is the 70th anniversary of HP Lovecraft's death, and to mark the occasion, the Museum of Science Fiction and Utopias in Switzerland is holding an exhibition of writing and art inspired by HP Lovecraft's Commonplace Book -- his "idea book" for stories that, in the event, he never got to tell. Now we're adding an interactive gaming component to the exhibit, at the venue and as an online extension. Also, I'm looking at other Lovecraft events that we may participate in as well as a revolving gallery. Finally, I hope to press a limited edition CDROM catalog of the entries. For all the details, please look over here: http://www.illuminatedlantern.com/if/lovecraft.html And if you intend to enter, send an email to me at lovecraftilluminatedlantern.com. This is an exciting project that combines arists, writers, and game developers to one common purpose. Also, it has the potential to combine game developers of both text only and graphics varieties, which doesn't happen too often...I'm on the text side of the fence myself, so this forum is pretty unfamiliar territory to me. Here is the original announcement, and responses, over at rec.arts.int-fiction: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts.int-fiction/browse_thread/thread/d49794384c593cd4/a3261cc9681d3ca5#a3261cc9681d3ca5 Competition-wise, I hope to have a vote for "Best in Show" for each category of games, but nothing to aggressive -- the emphasis I would like to place on this event is on participation, not competition. Best regards, -- Peter Nepstad http://www.illuminatedlantern.com/if

awesome opportunity. Really great venue for publicity... I'm pretty sure a friend of mine has read a bunch of his stuff, he might have some story ideas. I'll talk to him. And yeah, I might be inclined to pitch in... this might be a good opportunity to get a "Lassie Community" project going considering this is 3rd party inspiration that just needs talent to bring it to life. And we have no lack of talent around here... :D
