3D Assassin about February i had the bright idea of having a go at converting a AGS game to flash, so i choose 6 Day Assassin by Mr Colossal, so after contacting the guy and got a thumbs up, i set about grabbing images as no resources existed anymore, i made a director version to show eric and he was happy with it and said he'd help with the character and new background, so i set about doing an AS version and waited for the new graphics.... to cut a long story short they never arrived and haven't heard from him in 6 months
i know i still lack a lot of skills in using flash and creating games so i thought i'd put my own style to the game
so enter 3D assassin!
all the animations are part of the background, there are no sprites with images (up to now!)
it will have "being shoot animation" and characters in the intro
if you get chance have a quick look and let me know if the animations run smoothly and doesn't take to long to load (it kinda does even on broadband :? )
these loads to do, its more the loading time i'm worried about

Yeah, I think it takes way too long to load.
And, yikes! It's some kind of woman giant on the floor!!

it must be something to do with the camera angle because she was the same size as the character
yep the consensus is it loads to slow.. back to the drawing board :(

i've totally redone the background..
made Miss giant smaller, conventional background no more shadows, you can now see the skyline through the window, adjusted the camera angle, added another 2 puzzles, animate the door
tomorrow is sort the character day!

heres the la-*test*-('") version its now fully playable and it just need a few tweaks here and there
a lot of the SWF's need an extra frame because the animation re-runs as you enter the room, text needs elaborating a bit better and the various swf's need expanding on, maybe a extra puzzle
I've had to rush as I'm on borrowed time with Internet access, i hoping to at least get it beta before i go offline and concentrate on the details when the inevitable happens
the whole game is now 3meg in total rather than 8 meg for one swf!

Worked for me. I was able to play it to the end. The text at the end scrolled by pretty fast though.
Also, the "New Game" button from the menu just resumes instead of starting over.

for some reason the text speeds up online! its only temporary i'll make a better one
as long as you enter a a new game name it will go back to the start.. i've only tried local not online tho
bigmac- 09-14-2006
The text *speeds up* online? Weird... Flash almost always plays slower in a browser. You've got a freak scenario there!
NigeC- 09-14-2006
its ok.. its not a X files case... i uploaded the wrong one lol
everything is in the same folder as the 6DA version on our pc and i made a library up to put online and picked the wrong credits

the feedback on the whole has been fairly good and useful :D
i think i'll try and improve the flash scenes now, tidy things up and add the two extra puzzles i have planned..
but i might wait until its built within AS 0.8 before making it final
edit:
i've fixed the links/images to the game

3DA has proven very popular lately so i guess i should actually finish it
A guy i know from the biker world has given the main character a voice, which sounds fantastic
the cut scenes and intro always proved to be a problem for me so i've decided to lose the 3D in favour of a more cartoon style
what do you think?
i might re-think the heavily angled doors and windows, i still need to do a bit more work on the character
i'm making it 640x480 to try and reduce the bandwith problems i have

Looks Good I like the cartoon render...it looks good. Like something out of Marvel. Not too wild about the color scheme though...you've got some garish clashes there with the pink and pea green. (unless you're going for a 70's retro style, then it works.)
Maybe if you exchange the greens for a dull grey...the color pallette could be warm reds and pinks with grey accents like the wall trim. I think that would look better.
Skin tones are a little off too...your assassin needs to spend more time in the sun!
I like the victim's pose against the wall better then your last pose. Looks more realistic. Nice job! Can't way to see the cut scenes and voices.

Yeah, i've changed the ceiling colour, it did look a bit OTT, the character is now going to be rendered outside of Poser with the matching shading and looks a look better
i've removed the angles off the windows, my critics (the kids) stepped in on that one lol, the planks etc have been made less uniformed
thanks for the comment Tucker
